We are looking forward to an excellent Therapeutic Jurisprudence conference in Canberra Australia in February 2023.

This conference, presented jointly by the National Judicial College of Australia and the Australian National University, brings together members of the judiciary, academics, policy makers and other experts to consider current issues and challenges in the Australian justice system.
Courts applying Therapeutic Jurisprudence principles recognise – and address – individual factors which contributed to the offender’s criminal behaviour. The offender has the opportunity to engage with, rather than against, the court process. TJ principles and practice are applied in many specialist courts but have broader application in mainstream courts.
Key note speaker The Honourable Robert Tickner AO, Chair of the Justice Reform Initiative will speak on the topic “Towards an evidence based criminal justice sytem”.
Panel topics will include:
I know TJ when I see it or do I?
The law in action: a multi-discliplinary team perspective
Intergenerational trauma, intergenerational strength in First Nations communities
TJ skills, principles, examples and application – TJ as a cross-jurisdictional tool kit
TJ and alternative dispute resolution
Supporting justice for people with lived experience of disability
Telling the TJ story: Establishing, maintaining, defending and expanding TJ
